Hello and thank you for visiting!
Eight diverse Americans displaced by apocalyptic events struggle to discern their unique destinies: The Last Judges... a debut novel by Jedi Gong, the Teller of Tales of Superhumans, featuring over 30 full-page illustrations by 20 different artists.
This 100,000-word inspirational action-adventure urban fantasy takes place during the 'end of the world as we know it' and follows the development of an endearing cast of anti-heroes from across the country as they're displaced and challenged... but ultimately mature into true superheroes.
Beyond the internal conflicts, direct antagonistic flavorings include plagues, a young warlock, natural disasters, and a twisted one-world-order. The darkest protagonist, a teen from Baltimore eventually nicknamed Pyro, is tormented by the violent loss of his family. Another in the gray, but with plenty of comic relief, is the Woodsman, an old recluse who lives on the Broad River in Georgia. Central portions of the tale occur in his fascinating campsite, a living character in itself. Pyro's older brother, Raymond, develops his innate martial abilities while bonding with the main heroine of the novel, Anima X from Tucson, who becomes a gunslinger. You'll also meet a girl from Manhattan named Jade who fears her own multiple extrasensory talents. Natan Chayton is a high-voltage college professor who enters the story as a paraplegic. Two of his students, twin brothers with strange marks on their foreheads, escape with him from their school in Athens, Georgia. A few animals play supporting roles such as Dandy the stallion, Prancer the greyhound, and Anima's two monstrous black dogs, Suzy and Shamgar, sibling mutts with opposite dispositions.
You can see all of the illustrations here, but please note that they are not “just illustrations” but part of the storytelling! I designed them each as segment-starters, each depicting a mysterious/suspenseful teaser-scene that can't be fully understood until it's uncovered in the reading!
If you wish, please contact me for a full synopsis...
As you'll intuitively see in the synopsis, I designed the chapters based on Abraham Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, following each character's climb from the depths of the Hierarchy to their pinnacles of personal growth. The theories of a second psychologist, Carl Jung's Archetypes, heavily influenced my basic character-creation process. The arch of the prime heroine is a great example of the metamorphosis that all the players experience: Anima evolves from a sweet, disassociated teen skater-girl in her hometown of Tucson into a scarred gunslinging prodigy, parachuting into Central Park from atop the Time Warner building after destroying its rooftop satellites as part a grand finale that spans the east coast and effects the lives of millions.
Finally, although many years of personal eschatological research resulted in the specific details of the Biblical-prophecy backdrop of this tale, I don't consider it to be a “Christian book” belonging in that section of the store any more or less than something like The Boondock Saints does, or a vampire novel in which crosses have holy power...
